In a recent expose in the New York Times magazine, it has been revealed that Lindsay Lohan's off-set escapades, including incidents like assaulting a psychic and facing legal troubles for theft and dishonesty, mirror her tumultuous conduct while filming The Canyons.
Renowned profile writer Stephen Rodrick recounts various breakdowns exhibited by the 26-year-old actress during the production, with one particularly peculiar episode where she barricaded herself in a walk-in closet alongside a friend to evade shooting a four-way intimate scene involving three adult film actors.
Director Paul Schrader initially attempted to persuade her out of hiding, resorting to threats when persuasion failed.
After an hour of resistance, he resorted to disrobing to alleviate Lohan's discomfort, eventually convincing her to participate in the scene.
During filming, Lohan engaged in a 14-minute sequence featuring her co-star, acclaimed adult film performer James Deen, following this unconventional turn of events.
Nevertheless, the remainder of the shoot was riddled with challenges.
Lohan displayed a confrontational attitude towards her colleagues, showed up on set claiming to be unwell, and once drove off slightly intoxicated after nightfall, as detailed by Rodrick.
The article highlights how Lohan set a record in Hollywood by being dismissed and then rehired within a week of filming commencement.
Initially failing to attend work for two consecutive days, she was promptly terminated by Schrader, only to later seek reinstatement.
In a desperate attempt to salvage her role in the project, Lohan pursued Schrader at his Beverly Hills lodging, engaging in a tearful outburst outside his room for an extended period before departing in distress.
Despite frequent disagreements, Schrader eventually reconsidered and granted Lohan another chance, leading to a tumultuous working relationship between the two.
In candid moments between takes, Lohan confided in Rodrick, acknowledging the chaos surrounding her actions and expressing a newfound appreciation for her craft.
Reflecting on her past struggles, she admitted to grappling with personal turmoil but finding solace in her work.
“I needed time to figure out all the crap in my life that I'd created for myself, essentially, and I kind of realized, What am I doing?
I like doing this.
I like being here,” Lohan shared with Rodrick.
“This makes me happy.”
