The latest film featuring Robert Pattinson might not be suitable for a family movie night, with reports suggesting it kicks off with an intense solo act.
In the upcoming film, The Lighthouse, a captivating monochromatic horror piece, the 33-year-old actor has garnered praise from critics and even whispers of a potential Oscar nod in the upcoming year.
It appears that R-Patz didn't hold back in the opening sequence of the movie, setting the tone right from the start.
When speaking to The New York Times, Robert shared, “Well my first shot was this ferocious masturbation scene.
It's always nice to do something massive for your opening shot, and I went really massive on the first take.”
Although the scene was scripted, Pattinson decided to inject his own twist into it, catching even the director, Robert Eggers, off guard.
Reflecting on the unconventional choice, the Twilight star mentioned, “It was a 180 from everything we'd done in rehearsal, and I could see Robert [Eggers] a little in shock afterward.”
He continued, “But I was like, ‘OK, cool, I didn't get told to stop, so I'll keep going in that direction.'
As soon as I'd done that, it was like the road started getting paved.”
Robert Pattinson seems to be no stranger to depicting such acts on screen, as he confessed to Variety, “I keep masturbating.
In the last three or four movies, I've got a masturbation scene.
I did it in High Life.
I did it in Damsel.
And The Devil All the Time.
I only realised when I did it the fourth time.”
Seemingly comfortable with these risqué scenes, the British actor has embraced the challenges posed by his recent roles.
The Lighthouse, set in the 1800s on a desolate island in New England, follows Robert alongside Willem Dafoe as two lighthouse keepers confronting solitude and battling with their sanity.
Apart from the controversial scene, Pattinson underwent extreme measures to prepare for his role in The Lighthouse, including inducing vomit and wetting himself.
The release date for The Lighthouse in UK cinemas is slated for January 31, 2020.
