The Duchess has been spotted in supermarket aisles on previous occasions.
Years back, she was captured at a Waitrose store in Anglesey shortly after her grand royal wedding with Prince William in 2011.
Later that same year, she made an appearance at a Tesco in North Wales.
This week's unexpected sighting naturally prompts the question – do members of the royal family handle their own grocery shopping?
The answer varies, depending on the family member and the circumstances.
According to Marlene Koenig, a renowned royal expert and founder of the Royal Musings blog, it is highly unlikely to catch more senior royals like the Queen, Prince Charles, or the Duchess of Cornwall casually strolling through their local grocery outlets.
“I would sincerely doubt that the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall nip out to a local Tesco's or Waitrose, certainly not the Queen, as their household staffs take care of shopping, and I expect most is delivered to their respective homes,” Koenig explains.
However, it seems that younger royals such as Prince Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton might be more inclined to make supermarket appearances.
Koenig speculates, “I doubt she does the weekly shopping, as she does have a small household staff at Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall, who probably take care of most things.
But I think the Duchess of Cambridge, who has lived in a non-royal world, takes a more active role in what her family eats.”
Despite the possibility that the Duchess could engage in grocery shopping, her sightings are relatively rare.
Koenig suggests that security concerns likely play a role in limiting her public outings.
While the Duchess ventures out without disguises, her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, often opts for a more incognito approach, sometimes donning a baseball cap to blend in seamlessly.
In a candid revelation last year, Prince Harry disclosed his personal grocery habits, stating, “People would be amazed by the ordinary life William and I live.
I do my own shopping.”
Expressing a desire for a semblance of normalcy, he added, “But I am determined to have a relatively normal life, and if I am lucky enough to have children, they can have one too.
Even if I was king, I would do my own shopping.”
Amidst the buzz surrounding the royal family's grocery habits, Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, was reportedly sighted at a supermarket near Kensington Palace during her initial visits with the prince.
Koenig anticipates that post-wedding, Meghan may continue to make occasional trips to grocery stores, mirroring Prince Harry's independent approach.
For non-working royals like Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, who refrain from official engagements, frequenting grocery stores is a more plausible scenario.
