Princess Kate, also known as the Princess of Wales, embraced her new role as the sponsor of the 21st-century warship, HMS Glasgow, currently under construction.
This prestigious position was granted to her by Queen Elizabeth II in June of 2021.
Today, at Windsor Castle, Princess Kate radiated joy as she engaged with the staff from the Royal Navy Ships Company of HMS Glasgow.
Dressed elegantly in a navy suit paired with a crisp white blouse, Princess Kate captivated the sailors with her warm demeanor.
As the sponsor of the City Class Type 26 frigate, being built in Govan, Scotland, she took the time to converse with numerous sailors, gaining insights into the progress of the ship's construction and the daily life within the Royal Navy.
Images capturing the Princess interacting with the Royal Navy staff were posted on her and Prince William's personal Twitter account.
The post was captioned, “A pleasure to meet some of thee at Royal Navy Ships Company of HMS Glasgow, learning more about their roles and what's next on the route to getting her in the water.”
In the photos, Princess Kate's genuine interest shines through as she engages in conversation with the crew members.
HMS Glasgow, positioned along the River Clyde in Glasgow, marks the inception of a new era with its innovative design as part of the City Class frigates.
Equipped with a flight deck capable of hosting helicopters as large as the RAF's Chinooks, the ship also features a versatile loading bay for swift deployment of vessels, vehicles, and containers, as detailed on the Royal Navy's official website.
Designed to accommodate 161 personnel, HMS Glasgow is tailored for anti-submarine warfare operations.
Once operational, the warship will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the British Army's nuclear deterrent and aircraft carriers.
Notably, HMS Glasgow is just one of the trio of vessels being constructed at the shipyard, alongside HMS Cardiff and HMS Belfast, all destined for the Devonport Naval Base in Plymouth.
Reflecting on his wife's new role, the Prince of Wales expressed his anticipation for the upcoming naming ceremony in Glasgow.
