In the second part of the HBO Max documentary “Tiger,” released on January 17, shocking details emerge about how golfer Tiger Woods and his mistress Rachel Uchitel attempted to cover up their affair in 2009.
The lengths they went to hide the truth from Woods' then-wife, Elin Nordegren, are exposed in this revealing documentary.
Woods and Uchitel meticulously planned a 30-minute phone call with Nordegren, hoping to convince her that they were just friends.
However, their charade only lasted a few days before Nordegren discovered the truth.
This infamous scandal became one of the biggest stories of the year, resulting in Woods losing numerous lucrative sponsorship deals and irreparably damaging his image as an all-American athlete.
The second part of the HBO Max documentary, titled “Tiger,” sheds light on the affair that forever tarnished Woods' reputation as a beloved sports icon.
Rachel Uchitel shares new information about their relationship and the consequences it had on Woods' image.
In 2009, Woods' extramarital affairs came to light when his wife, Elin Nordegren, found out about his involvement with nightclub manager Rachel Uchitel.
Uchitel reveals that she and Woods orchestrated a phone conversation with Nordegren to convince her that the rumors were false.
Woods was concerned that various media outlets were on the verge of exposing their affair.
Initially, Nordegren believed their fabricated story.
“We thought we had gotten away with it without any consequences,” Uchitel reveals in the documentary.
Unfortunately, their plan unraveled just two days later.
On Thanksgiving 2009, Uchitel received a text message from Woods asking when they would see each other.
Believing it was Woods, she responded with, “Hey babe, I thought you went to sleep.”
To her surprise, the caller was actually Nordegren.
“I knew it was you,” Nordegren confronted her.
The events that followed made national headlines, exposing Uchitel as one of Woods' many mistresses.
The couple eventually divorced, settling for an estimated $100 million, making it one of the most expensive celebrity splits in history.
In the documentary, Uchitel also discloses that Woods called her to inform her that his lawyers would arrange a confidentiality settlement for her and advised her to “get as much [money] as you can.”
She interpreted this gesture as an expression of Woods' love for her.
Following the divorce and the scandal, Woods sought treatment for s** addiction and faced several challenging years in his professional golf career.
Although he experienced a resurgence in his performance, injuries hindered his progress.
In 2017, he faced a DUI arrest in Palm Beach County, which further contributed to his downward spiral.
While Woods managed to revive his career and move on from the scandal to some extent, Rachel Uchitel reveals that she faced a different public treatment.
“It felt like I was solely responsible for Tiger's actions.
My name was dragged through the mud,” Uchitel expresses her frustration regarding the affair.
Since her involvement with Woods, Uchitel has struggled to find employment opportunities outside of reality TV appearances.
She decided to participate in the documentary to share her side of the story and free herself from the shame associated with the affair.
“I needed to speak up for myself.
It's a way for me to break free from the shackles and no longer worry about people's opinions,” Uchitel explains.
Woods did not participate in the documentary, and his agent Mark Steinberg issued a statement to Golf Digest earlier this month, dismissing “Tiger” as an unauthorized and salacious attempt to present an incomplete portrait of one of the greatest athletes of all time.
