Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who have been striving to secure major deals independently of the royal family, appear to have faced setbacks in achieving their objectives despite their efforts.
The Sussexes, who inked lucrative agreements with streaming platforms and sought to build connections within the entertainment industry upon relocating to the U.S. following their surprising departure from the royal family in 2020, were notably absent from the 2024 Grammy Awards ceremony.
According to reports from the Mirror, the decision of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to skip this year's Grammy Awards might be linked to a cutting jibe made by host Trevor Noah.
Trevor Noah, the host of the prestigious music industry event known as the Oscars of music, has presided over the ceremony for the past four years and resumed his hosting duties on Sunday.
There was widespread speculation that Harry and Meghan would grace the Grammys, possibly as part of their efforts to reshape their public image following a tumultuous year of controversies and negative publicity.
However, the Sussexes were conspicuously absent from the event.
The Mirror suggested that Harry and Meghan opted out of attending the ceremony due to concerns about potentially being targeted by Trevor Noah's jokes.
It is rumored that the South African comedian had made a jest at the expense of the couple during last year's awards show, prompting Harry and Meghan to decline the invitation to this year's Grammys.
One of the memorable punchlines from the previous year's event took aim at Prince Harry, who had recently released his bestselling book, “Spare,” which was a topic of discussion at the time.
While introducing British comedian James Corden on stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Trevor referenced a section of Harry's book where he recounted suffering frostbite during a trip to the North Pole.
Trevor humorously remarked that James was proof that a man could relocate from London to LA without boasting about his frostbitten extremities.
Prior to turning the Sussexes into the subject of his jest, Trevor Noah had appeared on Meghan's Spotify podcast, Archetypes, and unknowingly became the final guest on the show before its cancellation following the collapse of Harry and Meghan's deal with the streaming service.
During the interview, Trevor shared insights about his mother, Patricia, and the valuable life lessons she imparted to him during his formative years.
Reflecting on his upbringing, Trevor recalled his mother's advice emphasizing that being the head of the household as a man did not hinge on earning more than one's partner but rather on fulfilling one's responsibilities.
He highlighted the societal pressures men face and how these self-imposed expectations can be limiting.
Following a controversial remark directed at King Charles II in the monarchy's colonial history in the aftermath of Queen Elizabeth's passing, Trevor Noah faced backlash.
Despite the anticipation surrounding their potential presence at the Grammys, it is evident that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not included in the guest list.
