Elvis Presley’s ‘Electric’ Love Affair with Ann-Margret Sparks Desire to Leave Priscilla

In a tale that goes beyond mere Hollywood passion, and Ann-Margret were described by the actress herself as “soulmates.”

Their connection was undeniable, spending nearly every waking moment together during the filming of Viva Las Vegas.

Even after shooting wrapped up, they sought secret rendezvous whenever possible.

Ann-Margret revealed in her memoir that external “commitments” prevented them from being together forever, but she later disclosed in an interview that Elvis yearned to be with her indefinitely.

At the time, Elvis was in a long-term relationship with Priscilla Presley (then known as Priscilla Beaulieu, as they were not yet married).

While Elvis filmed in Las Vegas, Priscilla remained at Graceland, diligently supporting the star.

However, when she discovered the truth, chaos ensued.

In her own memoir, “Elvis and Me,” Priscilla admitted to flying into a violent rage upon learning about the seriousness of Elvis' affair with Ann-Margret.

She confessed to hurling a flower vase across the room, shattering it against the wall.

Soon after, Elvis ended the affair.

It becomes apparent that Elvis desired to marry Ann-Margret rather than Priscilla, as their bond continued for over a year.

They grew incredibly close during their time together, sharing an unbreakable connection.

Despite their deep affection, circumstances beyond their control ultimately led to their separation.

Ann-Margret wrote, “There were other factors in Elvis's life that forced him apart from me, and I understood them.

Elvis had always been honest with me, but still, it was a confusing situation.”

When asked why she engaged in the affair despite knowing about Priscilla, Ann-Margret simply responded, “She wasn't here.”

Rumors circulated that Ann-Margret had discussed her relationship with Elvis in the press, which eventually reached Priscilla's ears.

This revelation prompted Elvis to end their contact entirely.

Not long after, Elvis married Priscilla on May 1, 1967.

Just one week later, on May 8, 1967, Ann-Margret tied the knot with her husband, TV producer Roger Smith.

However, the love between Elvis and Ann-Margret persisted.

Years later, Ann-Margret reflected on her time with Elvis with fondness.

She expressed, “We both felt a current, an electricity that went straight through us.

It would become a force we couldn't control.”

Even as they grew apart, they maintained a distant connection.

In a remarkable twist, years after Ann-Margret's marriage, she secured a residency at a Las Vegas hotel.

On the morning of each show, Elvis would send her a bouquet of flowers shaped like a guitar, wishing her luck.
