Supermodel Cindy Crawford recently shared insights into her previous marriage with actor Richard Gere, expressing that even two decades post their separation, he now feels like a distant acquaintance to her.
Delving into the past, she disclosed during an episode of Marc Maron's WTF podcast that despite spending six years together, their official union lasted merely two years.
Crawford, at the age of 26, exchanged vows with the then 42-year-old Gere back in 1991, with the pair eventually parting ways in 1995.
When questioned about her current rapport with the renowned star of “Pretty Woman,” now 49, Crawford acknowledged, “We maintain an amicable relationship, but it seems as though he has reverted to being the ‘Richard Gere' persona, resembling a stranger, as our interactions have dwindled over time.”
Reflecting on the dynamics of their bond, she observed, “Our connection was multifaceted, yet I wonder if genuine camaraderie ever truly existed between us – given my youthfulness and his established stature as Richard Gere.
As I evolved and matured, reshaping the essence of our relationship proved challenging.”
Recalling past sentiments from 1995, Crawford previously confided in PEOPLE regarding her union with Gere, stating, “Insufficient quality time spent together contributed to our downfall, a responsibility we both share.
Our assumption that brief encounters, such as flying from Paris to L.A. to reunite for a single evening, would suffice, proved erroneous.”
On a brighter note, Crawford expressed contentment in her present marriage to Rande Gerber, marking their upcoming 18th anniversary in May.
She highlighted the significance of their initial friendship, emphasizing, “The foundation of Rande and my bond lies in our friendship.
Authenticity has been pivotal; I never feigned interest in his hobbies or practices merely to align with a specific image.”
Together with Gerber, Crawford shares parenthood, nurturing their offspring, Presley, aged 16, and Kaia, aged 14.
Conversely, Gere underwent separation from actress Carey Lowell in 2013 following an 11-year marital journey.
