Anna Kendrick has openly shared her decision to turn down a potential romantic plotline in Pitch Perfect 3, labeling it as “extremely problematic”.
The talented 32-year-old actress, known for her role as Beca in the popular musical comedy franchise, declined to engage in any romantic entanglement with Guy Burnet’s character, Theo, a music executive.
This refusal stemmed from Kendrick’s belief that such a storyline would pose significant issues due to their existing professional connection, particularly when Theo tries to recruit her as a solo artist.
Initially intended to be Beca’s love interest, the music executive’s character underwent a transformation following Kendrick’s objection.
Despite this alteration, a revised ending involving a kiss between the characters was also proposed, but Kendrick stood firm in her decision to reject it.
Reflecting on the process, Kendrick expressed her surprise at the direction taken by the film, which sees Beca being singled out as the star of the Bellas after their reunion for a singing competition during an overseas USO tour.
Tasked with being the opening act for Theo’s upcoming tour, Beca’s newfound status as a solo artist deviated from her character’s original aspirations of becoming a top music producer.
Acknowledging her initial reservations, Kendrick admitted to being persuaded to embrace this new arc for Beca, emphasizing the collaborative effort to ensure its coherence within the storyline.
