A mandatory psychiatric hold has been enforced on Amanda Bynes, aged 37, due to concerns about her safety and that of others.
The former child star found herself under a 5150 hold after she voluntarily surrendered to the authorities in Los Angeles on Saturday morning, as per reports from TMZ.
Bynes took the initiative to contact law enforcement, expressing significant distress, leading to her current situation where she can be detained involuntarily for a period of up to 72 hours.
Struggling with her mental well-being, the actress had previously been subjected to a different psychiatric hold earlier this year.
In March, a distressed Bynes was discovered wandering the streets of LA unclothed.
Allegedly, she stopped a passing vehicle while completely n^de and disclosed to the driver that she was recovering from a psychological episode before making an emergency call to 911.
Subsequently, she was placed under a 5150 hold and remained hospitalized for almost three weeks.
Sources revealed to TMZ that Bynes, prior to contacting emergency services, was likely living “on the streets.”
Her ex-fiancé, Paul Michael, suggested she was not taking her prescribed medication.
It is speculated that she had been homeless for a number of days before reaching out to the authorities.
Having struggled with addiction issues and bipolar disorder, Bynes was released from an eight-year conservatorship in March 2022.
These recent incidents have raised concerns among long-time fans who have followed her career since her breakthrough on Nickelodeon in the late 1990s.
Originally from California, Bynes rose to fame through her roles in shows such as “All That” and her own series “The Amanda Show.”
Continuing her success into the 2000s, she starred in popular films like “She's the Man” (2006), “Hairspray” (2007), and “Easy A” (2010).
However, in 2012, Bynes faced legal troubles with a DUI charge followed by arrests in 2013 for reckless endangerment and marijuana possession.
During the same period, she was placed on her initial psychiatric hold after allegedly setting a fire on a stranger's property.
Bynes' mother eventually obtained conservatorship over her affairs, which was terminated just last year.
With limited familial support, the actress mostly interacts with her siblings and parents sporadically, as shared by sources close to her.
Since her discharge from the hospital in April, Bynes has been living independently, feeling despondent and isolated.
