Jessica Simpson doesn't hold back in her new memoir, “Open Book,” where she delves deep into her past relationship with John Mayer and sheds light on his infamous “s–ual napalm” remark.
The renowned singer bares it all in her latest book, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to her personal life, including her romantic entanglements.
At 39 years old, Jessica Simpson has had her fair share of high-profile relationships, notably her marriage to Nick Lachey, which she reminisces about in the memoir.
Reflecting on their initial encounter in 1998, Simpson recalls the moment she met Nick Lachey at a Hollywood event and describes it as an instance of “love at first sight.”
Their subsequent engagement in 2002 marked a significant milestone in their relationship, culminating in the reality TV series “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.”
However, despite the initial bliss, the pressures of their escalating careers eventually led to strains in their marriage, resulting in their separation after almost seven years together.
Following their divorce, both Jessica and Nick found happiness with new partners, with Jessica marrying former NFL player Eric Johnson in 2014, with whom she shares three children, while Nick tied the knot with television personality Vanessa Minnillo.
Delving further into her memoir, Jessica reveals intimate details about her clandestine romance with John Mayer, which began in 2005 after they crossed paths at a Grammy party.
Mayer's admiration for Jessica's songwriting talents and his pursuit of her led to a passionate but tumultuous relationship, characterized by Mayer's intense declarations of love and obsession towards her.
Despite feeling empowered by Mayer's affection, Jessica also grappled with insecurities stemming from his intellectual prowess, leading her to seek validation through grammar checks in her text messages and relying on alcohol to ease her nerves.
Ultimately, it was Mayer's “s–ual napalm” descriptor in a 2010 Playboy interview that served as the breaking point in their relationship, with Jessica feeling embarrassed and disrespected by the public nature of the comment.
Although their relationship ended following this incident, Jessica appreciates Mayer's subsequent public apology, acknowledging the complexity of their past dynamic and the growth she has undergone since then.
