During a recent appearance on Drink Champs, Robin Thicke revisited the time he tried to win back his ex-wife, Paula Patton, with his 2014 album titled Paula.
Thicke reflected on his intentions behind the album, sharing that he felt conflicted about their relationship's future.
Despite realizing they were not meant to be together, Thicke expressed the desire to maintain a strong connection with his child following their separation.
He emphasized the emotional turmoil he experienced during that period, which greatly influenced the content of the album.
The singer elaborated on the complexities of his state of mind at the time, explaining that the songs in the album reflected his fluctuating emotions.
He admitted that while part of him longed to reconcile with Patton, another part acknowledged the finality of their split.
Thicke clarified that although he conveyed the desire to reunite through his music, he was not actively pursuing a reconciliation as their relationship had already concluded.
Thicke candidly shared insights into his personal journey, revealing that the album served as a raw depiction of his internal struggles.
Despite the tumultuous nature of their breakup, he acknowledged the importance of accepting their growing differences rather than viewing it as a loss.
Having tied the knot in 2005 and becoming parents to their son, Julian, in 2010, Thicke and Patton shared a lengthy history, spanning over two decades.
Their union weathered various challenges, with the tipping point seemingly occurring around the time of the MTV VMAs in 2013 when Patton alleged discovering Thicke in a compromising situation.
Following their separation in 2014 and subsequent divorce proceedings, Patton cited several reasons for ending their marriage, including irreconcilable differences, infidelity, physical abuse, and substance abuse.
The former couple engaged in a custody battle over their son, with Thicke refuting the accusations leveled against him.
Reflecting on the album's release in 2015, Thicke expressed mixed feelings about sharing such personal experiences with the public.
He acknowledged that his decision to commercialize the project may have compromised its authenticity, suggesting that giving it away instead might have preserved its original message more effectively.
