The seasoned Saturday Night Live veteran bluntly stated that he doesn't care about the criticism directed towards him, even referring to himself as a “monster” behind the scenes.
In a recent interview on CBS, Chase boldly expressed his indifference, stating, “I don't give a crap.
I am who I am.
And I like who I am.
I don't care.
And it's part of me that I don't care.
And I've thought about that a lot.
And I don't know what to tell you, man.
I just don't care.”
Chase's behavior has sparked controversies in various work environments.
Terry Sweeney, the first openly gay actor on SNL, recounted an incident where Chase pushed for a sketch involving a character with AIDS getting weighed weekly on the show.
Following backlash, Chase was compelled to issue an apology for his insensitive suggestion.
Furthermore, actor Jon Lovitz corroborated Sweeney's account, revealing an appalling interaction where Chase made derogatory remarks.
Lovitz disclosed, “So Chevy looks at Terry Sweeney and goes, ‘You're gay, right?'
Terry goes, ‘Yes, what would you like me to do for you?' Chevy goes, ‘Well, you can start by licking my balls.'”
Actor Donald Glover also accused Chase of racial insensitivity during their time working together on the sitcom Community.
Glover shared that Chase once remarked, “people think you're funnier because you're Black,” indicating a racially charged comment.
Additionally, actor Will Farrell criticized Chase for making inappropriate jokes while on SNL.
Farrell recalled an uncomfortable moment during which Chase made a sexist comment towards a female writer, insinuating inappropriate behavior.
Reflecting on the encounter, Farrell expressed regret, stating, “In hindsight, I wish we'd all gotten up and walked out of the room.” The negative experiences recounted by multiple actors shed light on the contentious behavior attributed to Chevy Chase in professional settings.
As accusations continue to surface against Chase, his nonchalant attitude towards the allegations raises concerns about accountability and workplace conduct in the entertainment industry.
Despite facing criticism for his behavior, Chase remains steadfast in his self-assurance, seemingly unaffected by the repercussions of his actions.
