In a recent interview on Good Morning America, Demi Moore, now 56, shared distressing details from her new memoir, Inside Out.
Among the harrowing stories she recounted was her experience of being s–ually assaulted at the age of 15 by a man who paid her mother $500.
The actress revealed that during her teenage years, her mother, Virginia King, would take her to bars in search of male attention after moving around the country for some time.
It was during one of these outings that a disturbing incident occurred – upon returning home, Moore found an older man with access to their house who proceeded to assault her.
Following the assault, he callously asked her how it felt to be exploited for money.
Describing the horrific ordeal as rape and a profound betrayal, Moore expressed her inner conflict about whether her mother had knowingly put her in harm's way.
While she acknowledged that her mother might not have intended a straightforward transaction, she admitted that her actions had facilitated the traumatic event.
Moore's tumultuous upbringing included her father leaving before she was born, and being raised by her mother and stepfather, Dan Guynes, who she later discovered was not her biological father.
Both adults struggled with alcoholism, and Moore vividly recalled trying to save her mother from multiple suicide attempts, including physically removing pills from her mouth as a child.
After the assault at 15, Moore left home and ventured into Hollywood, kickstarting her acting career at a young age.
Reflecting on her journey, she also touched upon personal struggles in her adult life, such as a publicized incident in 2012 where she collapsed at a party due to a mix of drugs.
In her memoir, Moore candidly addresses her past substance abuse issues, including breaking her 20-year sobriety.
She attributed this relapse to pressure from her ex-husband, Ashton Kutcher, who she claimed did not believe in alcoholism and encouraged her to engage in threesomes.
Additionally, she alleged infidelity on Kutcher's part and disclosed a heartbreaking miscarriage early in their relationship.
While Kutcher's representatives have not responded to these specific claims, they noted that he was aware of the book's contents and remained supportive of Moore sharing her truth.
The couple divorced in 2013 after an eight-year marriage, and Moore's memoir is set to be released, dedicated to her daughters and her late mother.
Despite the challenges she has faced, Moore's resilience shines through as she continues to share her story with honesty and courage, inspiring others to confront their own struggles and seek healing.
Her willingness to speak out about her past traumas serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience and self-discovery in overcoming adversity.
