American supermodel, Gigi Hadid, found herself in a legal predicament during her recent visit to the Cayman Islands.
The 28-year-old was arrested and faced charges related to cannabis possession earlier this month after arriving on the island for a holiday via a private jet.
Accompanied by a friend, Hadid’s troubles began when authorities conducted a search of their luggage upon arrival on July 10th.
Subsequently, they were taken into custody but managed to avoid a criminal conviction by admitting to the offense and paying a fine.
In response to the incident, Hadid’s spokesperson clarified that the marijuana in question had been legally obtained in New York under a medical license.
Furthermore, they highlighted that the substance has been permitted for medical purposes in Grand Cayman since 2017.
As a result, Hadid’s record remains unblemished, and she was able to continue enjoying her stay on the island without further repercussions.
According to the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control agency, the arrest stemmed from allegations of importing marijuana and related paraphernalia for personal use.
Despite the relatively small quantity involved, the two individuals, Gigi Hadid and Leah McCarthy, were apprehended and later granted bail after being processed at a detention facility, as reported by local media outlets.
Appearing before the Cayman Islands summary court within days of their arrest, Hadid and her companion were fined 1,000 Cayman Islands dollars (equivalent to $1,200 or £920).
Notably, despite the legal entanglement, Hadid appeared unfazed and continued to document her holiday escapades on social media, sharing picturesque moments from her beachside retreat with her followers.
