Oscar-winning actor Joe Pesci is currently under investigation by the police following allegations that he punched a fan in the mouth.
The incident reportedly occurred when the fan tried to take a photo of Pesci in a shopping center parking lot.
According to police spokesman Sgt.
Jeff Kelly, Pesci provided his version of events during a recent interview at a residence in Boca Raton.
Garry Serino, who was with Pesci at the time, also provided a statement to the police.
Due to the ongoing investigation, Kelly refrained from providing further details about the incident, stating that there are always two sides to every story.
The police are now preparing to send the results of their investigation to the Palm Beach County prosecutors.
It will then be up to the prosecutors to determine whether Pesci should face charges of misdemeanor battery for allegedly punching Juan Carlos Montenegro, a 24-year-old Broward Community College student.
Montenegro explained to the police that after encountering Pesci, he approached the actor, shook his hand, and expressed his admiration as a fan.
When Montenegro asked for a picture, Pesci declined.
However, Montenegro persisted and eventually managed to take a photograph of the actor.
It was at this point that Pesci allegedly struck him with his right fist.
If Pesci is indeed charged, he will be issued a court summons and will not be taken into custody at the county jail, according to Mike Edmondson, spokesman for the state attorney's office.
