Remembering the Stars of Dallas: A Tribute to 13 Actors Who Left Us Too Soon

The iconic soap opera “Dallas” captured the hearts of millions during its run from 1978 to 1991.

Set against the backdrop of a wealthy Texas family, the Ewings, and their oil empire, the show was not just about power struggles and family feuds; it also introduced viewers to a talented ensemble cast.

Sadly, many of these actors have passed away, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate with fans.

Let’s take a moment to remember 13 of these remarkable stars who graced our screens.

Larry Hagman, perhaps the most famous face of “Dallas,” portrayed the infamous J.R. Ewing.

His larger-than-life personality and unforgettable performances made him a household name.

Hagman succumbed to cancer on November 23, 2012, at the age of 81, but his impact on television remains indelible.

Another beloved character was Miss Ellie Ewing, played by Barbara Bel Geddes.

Her warm presence provided a moral compass for the Ewing family.

Tragically, Bel Geddes lost her battle with lung cancer on August 8, 2005, at 82, but her portrayal continues to be cherished by fans.

Ken Kerseval, known for his role as Cliff Barnes, brought depth to the show’s conflict.

He passed away from pneumonia on April 21, 2019, at the age of 83.

Kerseval’s performance as J.R.’s rival added layers to the storyline, making the drama even more captivating.

Jim Davis, who played patriarch Jock Ewing, was another cornerstone of the series.

His commanding presence was felt until his death from cancer on April 26, 1981, at 71.

Davis’s portrayal of the tough but loving father figure left a lasting impression on viewers.

Donna Reed stepped into the shoes of Miss Ellie after Bel Geddes’s departure, bringing her own flair to the role.

Reed’s career spanned over four decades, but she sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer on January 14, 1986, at the age of 64, leaving fans mourning the loss of yet another beloved character.

Howard Keel, an accomplished actor and singer, joined the “Dallas” cast later in the series as Clayton Farlow.

His talents shone brightly until his diagnosis of colon cancer led to his passing on November 7, 2004, just six weeks later, at the age of 85.

Keel’s contributions to both film and television are still celebrated today.

Jared Martin, who portrayed Stephen Dasty-Farlow, was another notable talent from the series.

His journey ended when he succumbed to pancreatic cancer on May 24, 2017, at 75.

Martin’s character added complexity to the show’s narrative, further engaging viewers.

Dak Rambo, recognized for his role as Jack Ewing, faced a tragic end due to complications from AIDS.

He passed away on March 21, 1994, at 52.

Rambo’s contributions to the show were significant, and his early death was a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by many in the industry.

George Kennedy, a veteran actor with a prolific career, appeared as Carter McKay in the final seasons of “Dallas.”

His passing on February 28, 2016, at the age of 91, due to heart issues, marked the end of an era for many fans who admired his extensive body of work.

Morgan Woodward, known for his role as Marvin Punk Anderson, was a familiar face on the series.

He died on February 22, 2019, at 93, after battling a noncommunicable disease.

Woodward’s charisma and talent left a mark on the show that fans still remember fondly.
