In 1969, the notorious cult leader Charles Manson orchestrated a series of brutal murders that shocked the nation.
Among his victims was actress Sharon Tate, who was pregnant at the time.
Manson and his followers, known as the “Manson Family,” were found guilty of killing seven people in Los Angeles over the course of two nights.
The horrific acts they committed became known as the Tate/LaBianca killings, with celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, and Steve McQueen allegedly being targeted by Manson's group.
Sharon Tate, a talented actress at the age of 26, was married to director Roman Polanski when tragedy struck.
She was eight months pregnant when she was brutally murdered at her home in Benedict Canyon, near Beverley Hills, on August 9, 1969.
Tate was widely recognized for her role as Jennifer North in the 1967 film “Valley of the Dolls.”
On the fateful day of her death, she had just returned home from a dinner outing with three friends, all of whom also lost their lives that night.
Unfortunately, Polanski was away in London for work during this time.
The actress was mercilessly stabbed and hung from a rafter in her living room.
To add to the horror, the word “PIG” was scrawled in her blood on the front door.
It is said that Tate pleaded with her killers to spare the life of her unborn child, showing her extraordinary bravery in the face of unimaginable cruelty.
Another couple who fell victim to Manson's spree were Voityck Frykowski, a Polish film director, and his partner Abigail Folger.
Frykowski was a close friend of Roman Polanski, having met him in school.
Both Frykowski and Folger were guests at the Polanski residence on that fateful night.
Tragically, Frykowski was stabbed an astounding 51 times and shot twice, as revealed by the subsequent autopsy.
Abigail Folger, a 25-year-old heiress to the Folger Coffee Company, was working at a bookshop in New York when she crossed paths with Frykowski.
The couple managed to briefly escape from the house during the chaos but were ultimately chased down and brutally stabbed to death.
Steven Parent, just 18 years old, was the first victim of the August 9 killing spree.
He happened to be a friend of Sharon Tate's gardener and was tragically caught in the crossfire.
As he walked down the driveway, he noticed an intruder and was shot dead.
On August 10, Manson and his followers randomly targeted Leno and Rosemary LaBianca at their home in Los Feliz.
Manson reportedly chose the house out of dissatisfaction with the previous night's murders.
Leno LaBianca, a wealthy supermarket executive, and his wife, Rosemary, co-owner of a dress shop, were both brutally killed.
Mrs. LaBianca was kept upstairs in her bedroom while her husband was tied downstairs.
They were stabbed to death separately, adding to the horror of their final moments.
The Manson Family's reign of terror came to an end with their arrests and subsequent life imprisonment.
However, the tragic loss of innocent lives, including the beautiful and talented Sharon Tate, will forever be remembered as a dark chapter in American history.
