Lana Wood, the sister of the late Natalie Wood, recently came forward with shocking allegations of s**ual assault by actor Kirk Douglas in 1955.
In her memoir, “Little Sister: My Investigation into the Mysterious Death of Natalie Wood,” Lana revealed the truth behind this disturbing incident that had remained hidden for so many years.
But why did she choose to reveal this now?
Speaking to Fox News, Lana admitted that it was difficult for her to speak up before Douglas' death last year at the age of 103.
However, she acknowledged that the #MeToo movement played a significant role in giving her the courage to advocate for her sister's legacy.
“It was really uncomfortable.
And I've never said anything about it until now,” Lana said.
She recognized the strength within the movement and how it empowered women to speak out against s**ual assault.
However, she also acknowledged the challenges faced by survivors in coming forward.
The question of why they waited so long to share their stories often plagued them.
Lana described the admission of s**ual assault as a terrible thing, something she had never wanted to admit.
However, due to the numerous rumors and untruths surrounding her sister's life, she felt compelled to set the record straight.
She explained that the alleged incident had been long-rumored in Hollywood, which only added to her grief as she mourned the loss of Natalie.
Reporters would frequently approach Lana, asking her to reveal the identity of the person involved.
Despite the pressure, she always refused, wanting to protect her sister's reputation.
Lana emphasized Natalie's protective nature towards her family and expressed her desire to fight for her sister's name.
According to Lana's book, the incident occurred around the time Natalie was filming “The Searchers.”
Their mother, Maria Zakharenko, arranged a meeting between Douglas and Natalie, hoping it would open doors of opportunity for her daughter.
At the time, Douglas was in his late 30s, while Natalie was just 17 years old.
Lana vividly recalled the night of the alleged assault when she and her mother dropped Natalie off at the Chateau Marmont.
She remembered Natalie looking exceptionally beautiful but sensed something was wrong when her sister returned to the car disheveled and visibly upset.
Lana was too young to fully comprehend what had happened, but she knew that something terrible had occurred.
After the incident, Natalie and their mother made a pact never to publicly accuse Douglas, fearing it would ruin his career.
This secret agreement remained intact for decades until Lana shared the truth in her memoir.
Lana's decision to reveal this deeply personal and painful chapter of her sister's life was driven by a desire to protect Natalie's memory and ensure that the truth prevailed.
The #MeToo movement provided the strength and support necessary for her to come forward and shed light on this dark secret from Hollywood's past.
