In recent court filings, Angelina Jolie has accused Brad Pitt of being emotionally and physically abusive towards her and their children.
These allegations were originally made during their custody battle but have now resurfaced as part of their ongoing legal dispute over the sale of their co-owned vineyard in France.
The claims were initially made at the time of their divorce and were included in a redacted FBI report.
Pitt's representative, who was not authorized to speak publicly, strongly denied Jolie's allegations and referred to them as “another rehash that only harms the family.”
According to the new documents filed on Wednesday, Jolie claims that a series of violent incidents occurred during a plane journey in September 2016, which ultimately led her to file for divorce.
The 47-year-old actress states that Pitt verbally attacked her and lunged at one of their six children.
The documents further allege that Pitt's aggressive behavior began before the flight and escalated once they boarded the plane.
He allegedly choked one of his children and struck another in the face when they tried to protect each other.
The filing also states that Pitt poured beer and red wine on the children while aggressively swearing at them.
Jolie decided to file for divorce after the flight for the wellbeing of her family.
The actor allegedly prevented the family from leaving the plane and physically abused one of their children again after landing.
Just five days after the incident, Jolie filed for divorce, leading to an FBI investigation.
However, no action was taken against Pitt.
In a closed-door trial, a judge granted Pitt 50-50 custody of the children, despite the allegations being brought to light.
However, an appeals court later disqualified the private judge due to undisclosed conflicts of interest, nullifying the decision.
The former couple, who were together for a decade and married in 2014, were declared single by a judge in 2019.
However, their dispute over the sale of their stakes in Chateau Miraval SA, a French company that includes a home and vineyard, is ongoing.
Pitt has previously accused Jolie of orchestrating a “hostile” takeover of their wine business and forcing him into partnership with someone he deemed untrustworthy.
The Miraval estate, located in France, was purchased by the couple in 2008 for approximately €25 million (£20.8 million), with Pitt contributing 60% of the purchase price.
The divorce case is still pending, and custody and financial matters have yet to be resolved.
