Some, including Sinatra's close friend Tony Oppedinsano, argue that their relationship was purely platonic.

Oppedinsano states, “Frank felt she was too troubled, too fragile, for him to sleep with and then walk away.”

Oppedinsano reveals that Monroe had intended to disclose the details of her relationship with US President John F. Kennedy during a press conference, and Sinatra firmly believed that this revelation led to her untimely demise.

He states, “Frank believed if the press conference hadn't been announced, she would have lived a lot longer.

Frank believed she was murdered, and he never got over it.”
