Steven Spielberg Vows Never to Collaborate with Julia Roberts Again After $300M Movie Failure

Renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg, known for his blockbuster hits such as Jaws and Jurassic Park, has made a vow to never work with actress Julia Roberts again.

This decision comes after their collaboration on the 1991 film Hook, which despite being a commercial success, was considered a financial failure.

The director also had to address reports of Roberts' unpleasant behavior on set.

In Hook, Roberts portrayed the character Tinker Bell in a story about a grown-up Peter Pan returning to Neverland to save his children from Captain Hook.

During the filming of the movie, rumors circulated about Roberts' rude behavior towards the production staff, earning her the nickname “Tinkerhell.”

When asked about these reports during an appearance on 60 Minutes in 1992, Spielberg responded by acknowledging the unfortunate timing of their collaboration but praising Roberts as a talented actress.

However, when pressed about whether he would work with her again, Spielberg hesitated before giving a definitive “No.”

This response disappointed Roberts, who later expressed her surprise and hurt in an interview with Vanity Fair.

She felt betrayed by Spielberg's hesitation to defend her, especially considering the personal challenges she was facing at the time.

Roberts was going through a difficult period in her personal life, having called off her engagement to actor Kiefer Sutherland.

It was revealed that Sutherland had cheated on her with an exotic dancer, leading Roberts to cancel their wedding.

This emotional turmoil likely contributed to the rumors of her behavior on set, which she vehemently denied.

Despite the passage of time, it remains unclear whether Spielberg and Roberts have reconciled or moved past their differences.

Given the actress's hurt feelings over his comments, it may be challenging for her to simply forget about the incident.

Nevertheless, Roberts continues to maintain that she was not temperamental on the film set.
