Diamond earrings given to Meghan Markle by the Saudi Crown Prince, just three weeks after his alleged involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, have been discreetly kept out of public view.
During a state dinner on a tour in 2018, the Duchess, aged 39, was seen wearing the earrings, which were presented to her as a wedding gift.
At that time, the Crown Prince faced global condemnation for his alleged role in orchestrating the journalist's killing.
According to Kensington aides, who spoke to reporters during the royal tour in Fiji, the Chopard chandelier earrings were borrowed from a jeweler for the Duchess.
She wore them again in November of the same year, at Prince Charles' 70th birthday celebration.
However, since then, she has not been spotted wearing them.
As a gift from a foreign head of state, the earrings would be officially considered Crown property.
Sources indicate that Meghan's decision to wear the earrings surprised and shocked aides, considering her stance on women's rights in Saudi Arabia.
It is believed that the earrings have now been placed in secure storage.
However, a spokesperson for Meghan declined to comment on their current location.
