Dakota Johnson Criticizes Alfred Hitchcock for Allegedly ‘Terrorizing’ Grandmother Tippi Hedren

Dakota Johnson recently opened up about her grandmother, Tippi Hedren, and the impact Alfred Hitchcock had on her career.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's “Awards Chatter” podcast, Johnson shared that Hedren's career was “ruined” by Hitchcock and expressed her belief that he was never held accountable for his actions.

According to Johnson, her grandmother was “very encouraging” when she decided to pursue her own career in Hollywood, despite the abuse she endured.

She stated, “She's always been really honest and firm about standing up for yourself.

That's what she did.

[Alfred] Hitchcock ruined her career because she didn't want to sleep with him, and he terrorized her.

He was never held accountable.”

Hedren, who is now 91 years old, claimed that she was s**ually assaulted by Hitchcock multiple times during the making of his films “The Birds” in 1963 and “Marnie” in 1964.

Johnson emphasized the importance of not allowing individuals in positions of power to exploit those in weaker positions, regardless of the industry.

She acknowledged the difficulty of discussing such matters when it involves her own grandmother, stating, “You don't want to imagine somebody taking advantage of your grandmother.”

Johnson expressed her gratitude for the lessons her grandmother has taught her and her mother, emphasizing the importance of not tolerating mistreatment.

She praised Hedren's strength and eloquence, describing her as a glamorous movie star even to this day.

In her memoir, Hedren revealed that she did not disclose the assaults at the time because terms like “s**ual harassment” and “stalking” did not exist in the early 1960s.
