Jerry Lee Lewis' 13-Year-Old Bride Remains in the Spotlight
Myra Lewis Williams, also known as Myra Gale Brown, was once married to rock ‘n' roll pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis when she was just 13 years old.
But what has happened to her since then?
According to Williams herself, she has been “right here” all along, although her relationship with Lewis ended in 2015.
Back in 1958, Lewis faced professional exile when a reporter in London questioned him about the young girl in his entourage who introduced herself as “Jerry's wife.”
This led to the revelation that he had eloped with his 13-year-old cousin, Myra Gale Brown, while still being married to his second wife, Jane Mitchum.
The scandal resulted in the cancellation of Lewis' tour and being blacklisted by radio stations.
He continued to record music and perform in theater during this time but faced a significant drop in earnings.
Despite the controversy, Lewis made a comeback about a decade later.
In her 2016 memoir, “The Spark That Survived,” Williams addressed their scandalous relationship and shared some sordid details.
She described the memoir as her story of overcoming life's worst tragedies and her own mistakes.
Williams expressed her dissatisfaction with her first book and its movie adaptation, stating that they did not accurately portray her life story.
Williams also discussed her role as the adult in the relationship with Lewis and filed for divorce in 1970 due to allegations of abuse and adultery.
Her second book delved into her experiences becoming a mother at a young age, losing a son to accidental drowning, Lewis' drug addiction, abuse, divorce, and rebound marriage.
Despite their past, Williams revealed in a 2015 Instagram post that she remained in contact with Lewis because of their daughter, Phoebe.
However, since Lewis' marriage to her ex-sister-in-law a few years ago, their contact ceased.
Williams stated that her life has become more peaceful without Lewis in it.
Jerry Lee Lewis went on to marry four more times, with two of those marriages ending tragically.
His final marriage took place in 2012 to Judith Brown, who happened to be the ex-wife of Myra's younger brother.
As of now, Williams has not released a statement regarding Lewis' recent passing.
