A Tragic and Suspicious Incident Involving Laura Welch
In a largely overlooked story, the former First Lady, Laura Bush, has been linked to a fatal car accident that occurred in Midland, Texas in 1963.
Although this incident involved Laura Welch, who would later become Laura Bush, it is important to note that it was not politically motivated.
However, the circumstances surrounding the accident are undoubtedly tragic, unlikely, and raise suspicions.
According to a two-page police report from 1963, Laura Welch, then 17 years old, was driving her Chevrolet Impala on a clear night in November when she failed to stop at an intersection and collided with another vehicle.
The other car, driven by 17-year-old Michael Douglas, a star athlete and popular student, was hit with such force that he was thrown from the vehicle and died instantly from a broken neck.
Laura had a passenger, Judy Dykes, who suffered only minor injuries.
The police report states that neither driver was under the influence of alcohol, and no charges were filed in relation to the accident.
News accounts from that time reported that Michael's father witnessed the entire incident as he was driving behind his son's car.
It is worth noting that Laura and Michael had dated earlier in the year but had broken up by the time of the accident.
Michael was dating Regan Gammon, one of Laura's close friends, at the time.
There have been conflicting statements regarding Laura's involvement in the accident.
While she initially claimed that she did not know about Michael's death or identity until later at the hospital, she also mentioned that Michael's father arrived at the scene moments after the crash.
Additionally, Laura has made contradictory statements about whether she was driving, the weather conditions, and her relationship with Michael.
The police report, however, confirms that Laura was driving, and the weather was dry.
There is a local rumor in Midland that Laura may have intentionally caused the accident out of anger towards Michael.
Allegedly, she believed she was pregnant with his child, and when she informed him, he broke up with her and started dating Regan Gammon.
The odds of Laura colliding with Michael's car, out of the thousands of vehicles on the road, seem highly unlikely, leading some to speculate that it may not have been a mere coincidence.
It is important to note that this article does not suggest that Laura wanted Michael dead, but rather that she may have purposely run the stop sign in a fit of anger, unintentionally causing his death.
Furthermore, some believe that the subsequent police report was filled with false information, which was never properly investigated.
In the aftermath of the incident, Laura left Midland to attend Southern Methodist University.
She became part of a generation that dabbled in rebellion through smoking cigarettes and donning peasant blouses, but nothing more extreme.
It is rumored that she even sold small quantities of marijuana for a period.
Whether her family's influence played a role in the handling of the accident case is irrelevant to the core question – did she intentionally do something that resulted in a person's death?
Ultimately, one must consider whether this was a bizarre coincidence or a regrettable act of revenge driven by immaturity.
While true coincidences are rare, acts of evil are unfortunately more predictable.
Laura may not have intended for Michael to die, but directing her car towards his and causing his demise suggests a darker motive.
