In a surprising announcement, Hollywood star Hugh Jackman revealed that he and his wife of 27 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, are getting a divorce.
While fans may be shocked by the news, showbiz insider Peter Ford claims that this is not uncommon in the world of showbusiness.
Ford, a renowned entertainment reporter, explained on 6PR Breakfast with Millsy and Karl that 27 years of marriage in the entertainment industry is equivalent to 186 years in the lives of regular people.
He stated that it is not unusual for couples in their fifties and sixties to realize that once their children are grown, the bond that held them together is no longer there.
Hugh Jackman, who is 54 years old, and Deborra-Lee Furness, who is 67, have two children together, Oscar and Ava.
Despite rumors suggesting trouble in their marriage as far back as early 2022, when Furness was rarely seen accompanying Jackman to rehearsals for his Broadway show, The Music Man, Ford dismissed these claims.
“Why would she?
She wasn't part of the show!”
Ford responded.
According to an insider speaking to Page Six, there was no third party involved in their split.
Instead, they had been living more like roommates than a couple.
The couple faced criticism over their 13-year age gap but always shrugged off the negativity.
Over the years, there have also been persistent rumors about Hugh Jackman's sexuality, with some speculating that he is secretly gay.
In a 2013 interview with Australia's 60 Minutes, Jackman expressed his frustration with the constant speculation, stating that it was not the most interesting thing about a person.
His wife added that if he were gay, he would openly admit it.
Peter Ford shared his insight into Jackman's personal life, recalling how they used to work out at the same gym and how he often saw Jackman attending courses on Buddhism, spiritualism, and meditation at The Melbourne Theosophical Society.
This suggests that Jackman has always been on a spiritual journey.
In a joint statement, the former couple expressed their gratitude for the almost three decades they spent together in a loving marriage.
However, they acknowledged that their journey is now taking a different direction, and they have decided to separate in order to pursue their individual growth.
They emphasized that their family will always be their highest priority and requested privacy as they navigate this transition.
Hugh Jackman has reportedly found support in his close friend and co-star Ryan Reynolds, with whom he is working on Deadpool 3.
During a recent encounter with paparazzi in Los Angeles, Jackman admitted that he and Furness are struggling with their separation, describing it as a difficult time.
Despite the challenges, Jackman has always celebrated their love on special occasions, including their wedding anniversaries.
On Valentine's Day this year, he expressed his affection for Furness, highlighting her humor, generosity, wisdom, and spirit.
The divorce of Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness marks the end of a long and successful marriage in the entertainment industry.
As they embark on their individual paths, their fans and the public will undoubtedly continue to support and respect their decisions.
