Actress Anna Faris opens up about the rumors surrounding Jennifer Lawrence and her ex-husband Chris Pratt in her new book, “Unqualified.”
According to Faris, Lawrence apologized for the cheating rumors, even though she was not at fault.
When celebrity couple Chris Pratt and Anna Faris announced their separation earlier this year, fans were devastated and quick to place blame on external factors rather than simple marital issues.
Unfortunately, this led to fingers being pointed at Jennifer Lawrence.
The rumors of a romantic relationship between Pratt and Lawrence started during the filming of “Passengers.”
This scenario is all too familiar when it comes to co-stars.
Faris even shared that her publicist warned her about the inevitable speculation surrounding Pratt and Lawrence before they even started shooting the movie.
Faris wrote in her book, “Unqualified,” as reported by Us Weekly, “Before they met in person, my publicist, out of the blue, pulled me aside.
‘Anna, listen there are going to be paparazzi all over them…
There are going to be stories circulating, and you have to brace yourself for this.'”
As predicted, stories soon emerged claiming that Lawrence and Pratt had engaged in a passionate affair.
Faris admitted that these rumors were hurtful, but she tried her best to ignore them.
Surprisingly, Lawrence reached out to Faris and offered an apology for the rumors.
“Jennifer and I really are friendly, and she was apologetic even though she didn't need to be because she hadn't done anything wrong,” Faris wrote.
It is commendable that Faris recognizes that Lawrence had no need to apologize, as it is the truth.
All three individuals involved – Faris, Lawrence, and Pratt – found themselves in a challenging situation, and the only ones who should truly apologize are those who spread the rumors in the first place.
Society often expects women to apologize excessively for things beyond their control.
Unless Lawrence personally fed these rumors to tabloid writers, her apology was unnecessary.
However, it is not surprising that she felt compelled to do so, as women are often expected to worry about others and take on blame unnecessarily.
While it is not always a negative trait for women to be inclined to apologize, it is important to recognize that Lawrence should not have been burdened with this responsibility.
She was likely hurt by being dragged into the situation in the first place.
Faris and Lawrence's refusal to engage in a tabloid-fueled feud is admirable.
Yet, in this case, Lawrence should only apologize for her involvement in “Passengers,” as the movie itself received criticism.
In conclusion, Jennifer Lawrence's apology to Anna Faris was unnecessary and highlights a larger societal issue regarding women and undue apologies.
It is crucial to recognize that women should not be burdened with taking blame for situations they did not create.
