Elon Musk’s daughter, who recently turned 18, has taken legal action to sever ties with her father.
In court documents filed in April, she expressed her desire for a name change, recognition of a change in gender, and the issuance of a new birth certificate.
The teenager has chosen the name Vivian Jenna Wilson, taking her mother Justine Musk’s former surname.
The documents were submitted in Los Angeles County, and while the primary reason for the requested changes was to align with her gender identity, they also shed light on the strained relationship between father and daughter.
In the court papers, Vivian stated, “Gender identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form” as the reasons behind the name change.
No public statements have been made by either Elon or Vivian regarding their apparent fallout.
However, Elon faced criticism in 2020 when he tweeted about his dislike for pronouns.
He posted “Pronouns suck” on his social media account in July of that year but subsequently deleted it after his then-girlfriend Grimes confronted him.
Grimes expressed her disappointment, urging him to stop spreading hate and assuring him that it wasn’t in line with his true character.
The decision to distance herself from Elon Musk is a significant step for Vivian as she enters adulthood.
It reflects her desire to establish her own identity separate from her famous father.
While the specifics of their strained relationship remain undisclosed, it is clear that she seeks to redefine her life and create a path independent of her family ties.
This legal action signifies the importance of self-expression and the autonomy individuals have over their identities
