In a heartfelt revelation, actress Ashley Judd shared that she suffered a leg fracture in what she described as a “freak accident” during the summer.
This unfortunate event occurred just a few months after the tragic loss of her mother, Naomi Judd, who died by suicide.
During an Open Mind lecture with UCLA professor Dr. Jonathan Flint, held on October 27, Ashley expressed her thoughts on the matter.
She acknowledged the association between clumsiness and grief, mentioning that other family members had also experienced accidents and falls following their mother’s passing.
Ashley explained that her leg injury, specifically a femoral condyle fracture, happened less than two years after she had previously injured it while hiking in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
At that time, she had endured a challenging rescue operation and a lengthy recovery process due to the leg shattering in multiple places.
Fortunately, this recent fracture was less severe, healing within a mere two months.
Ashley viewed this recovery period as a valuable opportunity to confront and process her emotions surrounding her mother’s death.
She expressed, “It really allowed me to grieve…to stop what I was working on at that moment and to grieve.”
Naomi Judd tragically took her own life on April 30 at the age of 76.
Throughout her life, the country legend had been candid about her battles with mental health, particularly her three-year struggle with suicidal depression.
As the six-month anniversary of Naomi’s passing approaches, Ashley stated that she is in a better place emotionally and has plans to attend her sister Wynonna Judd’s upcoming tour.
The tour was originally meant to include their late mother.
During the lecture, Ashley shared her feelings, saying, “I just spent some time with my wisdom teacher today, and there’s a lot going on in my life right now.
We’re approaching the [six] month anniversary of my mom’s passing and my sister’s on tour.
I’m seeing two of the concerts this weekend, which brings up a lot of deep poignancy, both joy and sorrow.”
Despite the challenges she has faced, Ashley Judd continues to navigate through her grief one day at a time, finding solace in healing both physically and emotionally.
