Why Hugh Grant Wasn’t Fond of Kissing Julia Roberts

In the 1990s, and captivated audiences with their roles in the beloved romantic comedy “Notting Hill.”

Grant portrayed William Thacker, a humble bookshop owner in London, while Roberts played Anna Scott, a famous American actor.

The film follows their journey as they fall in love, despite various obstacles.

Although it's hard to imagine “Notting Hill” without its iconic leads, Roberts initially hesitated to take on the role of a movie star.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, she admitted that she initially found the idea boring and foolish.

However, her opinion changed when she learned that Richard Curtis had written the script.

Despite her initial reservations, Roberts admitted to feeling intimidated by Grant during filming.

She also mentioned feeling out of place as the only American in the cast, assuming that everyone sounded smarter than her.

Nevertheless, the two actors seemed to have established a good rapport on set.

Grant even revealed that Roberts would playfully throw fruit at him during filming.

However, something he said after the movie wrapped might have irked his charming co-star.

During an interview with , Grant disclosed an issue he had with Roberts: her mouth.

He jokingly remarked that she had a very large mouth, which he noticed while kissing her on screen.

Winfrey praised Roberts as one of the nicest people she had met, but Grant playfully disagreed.

He went on to reiterate his comments about Roberts' mouth during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.”

Grant admitted that the kissing scenes weren't particularly enjoyable for him due to her mouth's size.

Although he expressed that he wouldn't mind staying friends, he acknowledged that he may have made too many jokes about her mouth, which could have affected their relationship.

Despite this, reports suggest that Roberts forgave him for his remarks and would work with him again.

However, a sequel to “Notting Hill” is unlikely.

Interestingly, Grant doesn't seem to believe in happy endings, even in the context of romantic comedies.

When asked if he would star in another rom-com, he expressed a desire to do a sequel that explores what happens after the initial films' happy endings.

Grant shared his idea for a “Notting Hill” sequel, envisioning a gloomy outcome involving a bitter divorce, expensive lawyers, children caught in a tug of war, and emotional scars.

While he may have starred in numerous romantic comedies in the past, Grant has previously stated that he no longer feels suited for such roles due to his age and appearance.

He finds relief in portraying complex characters like murderer Dr. Jonathan Fraser.

Consequently, it seems unlikely that Grant and Roberts will reunite onscreen anytime soon.
