Bond Icon Roger Moore Reveals Harrowing Experiences of Domestic Abuse
Roger Moore, renowned for his portrayal of James Bond, has opened up about the harrowing experiences of domestic abuse he endured at the hands of his ex-wives.
In an exclusive interview, Moore shared shocking details of the physical assaults he suffered during his tumultuous marriages with Doorn van Steyn and Dorothy Squires.
The legendary actor revealed that he was subjected to punches, scratches, and even hit with various objects including a teapot and a guitar.
He also recounted an incident where a brick was hurled through his window.
These incidents paint a disturbing picture of the violence he endured.
Speaking to Piers Morgan on his TV series, Life Stories, Moore recalled an incident involving his first wife, van Steyn.
He described how she not only attacked him but also assaulted his doctor when he hesitated to treat Moore's slashed hand.
“It made a change because normally she punched me,” Moore said.
When asked about the extent of her violence, Moore replied, “Yes, she would scratch me.
She threw a pot of tea at me.
I'd been sunbathing in the garden, I came up and I'd taken off my pants and I gave her some smart Alec answer and this teapot came hurtling at me.
I said, ‘Right, that's it, I'm leaving'.”
Moore went on to reveal another incident involving Squires, his second wife, which resulted in the destruction of his guitar.
“There was a confrontation…
I was sitting on the edge of the table strumming and she was ranting on about something and I wasn't taking any notice.
Next thing I know, it was like slow motion, I could feel the guitar coming out of my hands and I could see it up above my head and… bash, it came down.
She ruined the guitar.
She had a great temper,” he recounted.
Despite the violence, Moore managed to end his marriage with van Steyn in 1953, but not without making up an affair with a friend's wife to obtain a divorce.
He then married Welsh singer Squires later that year, but the attacks continued.
The marriage with Squires eventually ended when Moore cheated on her with actress Luisa Mattioli, who became his third wife.
Squires reacted by throwing a brick through his window and cutting herself in the process.
Moore admitted, “Dorothy was not happy to find out I was having an affair…
The police came and they said, ‘Madam, you're bleeding'.
And she said, ‘It's my heart that's bleeding'.”
Moore, who attended a charity event in London yesterday, described his ex-wives as “lovely ladies with bad taste in men.”
He is currently married to his fourth wife, Danish-Swedish socialite Kristina Tholstrup, and stated that their relationship is peaceful with no arguments.
This revealing interview with Piers Morgan will air on ITV1 this Friday at 9 pm, offering a deeper insight into the personal struggles of this iconic actor.
