Brad Pitt, the renowned actor, reportedly had a strong desire to play the role of late musician Kurt Cobain in a biographical film.
However, his proposal was turned down by actress Courtney Love, who was Cobain's wife at the time of his death.
During an appearance on the WTF podcast with Marc Maron, Love revealed that Pitt persistently pursued her for the biopic.
She expressed skepticism about Pitt's intentions and doubted his understanding of Cobain's essence.
Love stated, “I wouldn't let Brad play Kurt.
I went nuclear…if you don't get me, you kind of don't get Kurt, and I don't feel like you do, Brad.”
In response, Love accused Pitt of seeking revenge by excluding her from a role in his movie Fight Club.
She claimed that she was initially cast as Marla Singer but was unjustly replaced by Helena Bonham Carter.
Although sources close to the David Fincher film confirmed that Love did audition for the role, they clarified that Pitt had no involvement in the casting decision.
Love, however, learned about her removal from Edward Norton, whom she was dating at the time, and from Fincher himself.
Following the podcast, Love took to Instagram to further emphasize her statements.
She criticized Pitt for abusing his power and stated, “It's a simple fact, and it started during the production of ‘Fight Club'…The point is Brad kept on stalking me about Kurt.”
Love also revealed that she rejected Pitt's pitch once again in 2020 and discussed the matter on the podcast to discourage him from pursuing the role.
Interestingly, Gus Van Sant, who approached Love alongside Pitt, later created a project loosely based on Cobain's life titled Last Days.
In her Instagram post, Love expressed a desire to end the resentment with Pitt and acknowledged his talent as a movie star.
However, she made it clear that she did not appreciate him as a producer of a biographical film.
Meanwhile, Pitt's Fight Club can now be rented on Apple TV.
Overall, this incident sheds light on the persistence of actors in pursuing roles they are passionate about, even when faced with obstacles.
It also highlights the complexities and dynamics within the entertainment industry, where personal relationships and power dynamics may influence casting decisions.
