Marlon Brando, the renowned movie star, has left out his adopted daughter and the son of his late daughter from his $US21.6 million ($A30 million) estate, according to his will which was revealed today.
The will, filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, also mentioned two children with Tahitian names who are not commonly known in accounts of Brando's life and personal relationships.
Brando, known for his enigmatic nature, directed that his assets, including approximately $US18.6 million ($A25.86 million) in real estate and $US3 million ($A4.17 million) in personal property, be transferred to what he referred to as a “living trust”.
However, the released copy of the will did not specify the beneficiaries, except for making reference to “certain monthly payments” to two female friends, and instead referred to the terms of the trust.
Nevertheless, Brando explicitly stated in the document, signed on August 28, 2002, that he was excluding his 32-year-old adopted daughter and a teenage grandson, the son of his late daughter Cheyenne Brando, from his will.
“I intentionally and with full knowledge of the consequences do not provide in my will or in my living trust for Cheyenne's issue or for Petra Brando-Corval, or for any of Petra's issue,” Brando stipulated.
“All provisions of my will shall be interpreted as though Petra had predeceased me.”
Petra Brando-Corval is the daughter of Caroline Barrett, who served as Brando's personal assistant from 1976 to 2001, and who sued him last year alleging that he attempted to reclaim a $US185,000 ($A257,000) gift he had given her to purchase a home in London.
The lawsuit was settled a week before Brando's death on July 1.
The will also disclosed that Brando made amendments to it less than two weeks before his passing, appointing three executors: his producer friend Mike Medavoy, business manager Larry Dressler, and close friend Avra Douglas.
Among the 10 living children acknowledged in Brando's will, ranging in age from 46 to 10, were two individuals not commonly mentioned in Brando biographies: Maimiti and Raiatua Brando, aged 28 and 23.
Maimiti was portrayed by Brando's second wife, Polynesian beauty Tarita Teriipia, in his 1962 film “Mutiny on The Bounty”.
Tarita is the mother of two of Brando's other children, Cheyenne and 41-year-old Taihotu Brando.
Tarita and Teihotu currently reside in Tahiti, where Brando owned an atoll, a significant part of his real estate holdings, along with his Los Angeles home.
There had been conflicting reports regarding the number of children fathered or adopted by the intensely private star.
The probate petition submitted alongside Brando's will also indicated that his estate generated an annual income of $US500,000 ($A695,000).
