James Bond actor, Daniel Craig, has revealed that he does not intend to pass on his vast fortune to his children.
With an estimated net worth of around £116 million, Craig expressed his desire to give away most of his wealth before his passing.
The 53-year-old actor, who has a daughter with his wife Rachel Weisz and another daughter with his ex Fiona Lourdon, spoke candidly about his views on inheritance in an interview with Candis Magazine.
He said, “Isn't there an old adage that if you die a rich person, you've failed?
I think Andrew Carnegie, an American industrialist, gave away what would be about 11 billion dollars in today's money, which shows how wealthy he was because he must have kept some of it too.
But I don't want to leave great sums to the next generation.
I think inheritance is quite distasteful.
My philosophy is to get rid of it or give it away before you go.”
As Craig prepares for his final appearance as James Bond in the upcoming film “No Time To Die,” he has been reflecting on his time playing the iconic spy.
Despite previously declaring that he was done with the franchise after the release of “Spectre” in 2015, Craig shared that it was his first Bond film, “Casino Royale” in 2006, that convinced him to take on the role one more time.
Initially believing that he was physically incapable of continuing as Bond, Craig explained, “For me, it was very cut and dried that I wasn't coming back.”
However, after discussions about creating a direct conclusion to his first Bond film and tying up loose ends related to the character Vesper and the organization Spectre, Craig became intrigued by the idea.
He stated, “It started to formulate.
And I thought, ‘Here we go.'”
As fans eagerly anticipate Craig's final adventure as James Bond, the actor's decision to donate his fortune rather than pass it on to his children showcases his unique perspective on wealth and inheritance.
His philosophy serves as a reminder that success is not solely measured by material possessions but can also be found in acts of generosity and giving back.
