Actor Jeremy Renner found himself in a dangerous situation on New Year’s Day when he attempted to prevent his snow-removal tractor from sliding into his grown nephew’s truck.
Unfortunately, Renner was pulled under the vehicle and crushed, as revealed in a recent incident report from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada.
According to the report, the parking brake of the snowcat vehicle was not engaged, which would have prevented it from sliding sideways.
Renner had used the snowcat to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow before the accident occurred.
The report also mentions that there were some mechanical issues with the snow groomer, and the brake indicator light inside the cab was not functioning properly.
When Renner tried to stop or divert the snowcat to avoid injury to his nephew, he exited the vehicle without setting the emergency brake.
Tragically, he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.
Renner’s nephew managed to provide assistance until help arrived, and Renner was subsequently airlifted to the hospital.
During his two-week stay in the hospital, Renner underwent at least two surgeries and received treatment in the intensive care unit.
Impairment was not considered a factor in the incident, according to the report.
The sequence of events began when Renner towed his nephew’s truck out of the actor’s driveway after it got stuck in the snow.
As he towed the truck onto the street, the snowplow started sliding sideways and then rolled down the hill.
Renner immediately jumped out of the vehicle, fearing it would collide with his nephew.
To enter the snowplow’s cab, Renner had to climb onto its moving track, which resulted in him being pulled under the left side track.
Renner suffered severe injuries, including more than 30 broken bones.
A 911 call log revealed that he had extreme difficulty breathing, with the right side of his chest collapsed and his upper torso crushed.
He remained on the ground and focused on his breathing while his nephew and others provided aid until medical personnel arrived.
In a recent Instagram post, Renner expressed gratitude for the support he and his family have received in the aftermath of the accident.
He emphasized the strength of their love and bond and expressed confidence that his broken bones would heal, just as their relationships would deepen.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers inherent in snow removal activities and the importance of taking necessary precautions to ensure safety.
It also highlights Renner’s bravery in attempting to protect his nephew, even at great personal risk.
