Denise Richards was completely caught off guard by a recent court ruling that stated her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen, was no longer obligated to pay child support, according to sources.
The decision was made on Monday, but Richards, who is currently out of town filming, was not expecting it.
A source revealed that Richards felt blindsided and accused Sheen of manipulating the situation.
The court granted Sheen's request to cease payments for their two daughters, Sami (17) and Lola (16), as reported in a minute order obtained by Page Six.
Sheen, known for his role in “Two and a Half Men,” expressed his satisfaction with the ruling outside the courthouse, stating that it was “extremely fair.”
An insider close to Richards revealed that she is deeply saddened by the entire situation.
It seems she learned about the ruling while filming her latest movie, “Wickenburg,” in Ontario, Canada.
The source emphasized that Richards is a devoted mother who prioritizes her children's well-being.
She believes they need structure and rules, whereas Sheen tends to be more permissive.
Richards simply wants what's best for her kids.
However, another insider claimed that Richards had been aware of the court date for six months, contradicting the notion that she was caught off guard.
This conflicting information raises questions about the accuracy of the sources and their intentions.
Last month, Sami, Richards' eldest daughter, referred to her mother's home as “abusive” in a TikTok video that has since been made private.
She also expressed feeling trapped.
A source explained that Richards is a firm parent who sets rules, while Sheen doesn't support enforcing those rules.
Their differing parenting styles led Sami to choose to live with her father.
Under California law, if a child is at least 14 years old, they can express their custodial preference unless it is deemed detrimental by the judge.
It is unclear whether Sami's decision influenced the court's ruling.
Regarding Richards and Sheen's younger daughter, Lola, the insider clarified that she does not live with her father full-time.
Lola splits her time between both parents and stays with Sheen when Richards is away.
When Richards returns, Lola will be with her again.
The insider concluded by stating that this situation is disappointing but not surprising for Richards.
They accuse Sheen of driving a wedge between the girls and their mother, which they condemn as horrible behavior.
Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen were married from 2002 to 2006.
Sheen also has twin sons, Bob and Max (12), with his ex-wife Brooke Mueller, as well as an older daughter, Cassandra Estevez (36), with Paula Profit.
Sheen has had a tumultuous history with substance abuse.
In 2018, he celebrated one year of sobriety after struggling with addiction on and off.
He experienced a relapse in 2016 after being sober for 11 years.
It was reported that his HIV diagnosis in 2012 contributed to his setbacks.
Representatives for both Richards and Sheen have yet to respond to Page Six's request for comment on the matter.
