In an exclusive report, it has been revealed that the notorious incident involving Lana Turner's mobster boyfriend, Johnny Stompanato, being fatally stabbed in her home by her own daughter, Cheryl Crane, back in 1958 will be the inspiration for Casey Sherman's upcoming true crime thriller, aptly titled ‘A Murder in Hollywood'.
What's more, this gripping story is set to make its way to the small screen.
Jake Crane, a talented writer known for his work on the Korean War film ‘Devotion', starring Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, has acquired the rights to Sherman's book and will be spearheading the adaptation.
‘A Murder in Hollywood' marks Sherman's 16th book, adding to his impressive portfolio which includes bestsellers like ‘The Finest Hours', later turned into a Disney film featuring Chris Pine, and ‘Boston Strong', which was adapted into ‘Patriots Day' starring Mark Wahlberg.
The book delves into the tragic stabbing of iconic actress Turner's gangster lover, Stompanato, within the confines of her opulent Beverly Hills mansion during the late 1950s.
Crane, who faced charges for the crime, was ultimately cleared after a coroner's inquest determined that the act was justifiable due to ongoing physical abuse within the family.
Stompanato, a member of the notorious Cohen crime family, began dating Turner after working on the film ‘The Lady Takes A Flyer'.
Expected to hit shelves later this year under the publishing house Sourcebooks, ‘A Murder in Hollywood' promises to shed new light on the incident, exploring how Turner became a target for extortion by Stompanato and his boss, Mickey Cohen.
Additionally, the book will delve into the controversial theory that Turner herself may have been responsible for Stompanato's untimely demise.
Sherman will take on the role of producer alongside Jake Crane and his partner, Geoff Stults.
Crane, who collaborated on the screenplay for ‘Devotion', is currently adapting Bill Plaschke's book, ‘Paradise
