Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, known by his real name Daystar Peterson, has been relocated to a state prison in California as he serves his 10-year sentence for shooting fellow hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion.
On Tuesday, Lanez, 31, was admitted into North Kern State Prison located in Delano, according to official prison records.
During the admission process, a new mug shot was taken, capturing Lanez's expressionless demeanor.
The 10-year sentence was handed down to Lanez in August after he was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, in the foot following a party they attended together in Los Angeles in 2020.
The incident occurred at Kylie Jenner's residence on July 12, 2020, after which Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion, a three-time Grammy winner.
In December, Lanez pleaded not guilty to three felony charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying an unregistered loaded firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
However, the jury ultimately convicted him.
Shortly before his sentencing, Lanez expressed remorse for his actions and took full responsibility for the shooting.
However, in a subsequent Instagram post, he clarified that he was only taking responsibility for the “verbal and intimate moments” he had shared with those involved, emphasizing that he refused to apologize for the charges he believed were wrongful convictions.
Following the denial of his appeal bond, which aimed to secure his release during the appeals process, Lanez's legal representation, the nonprofit organization Unite the People, released a statement expressing disappointment but reaffirming their commitment to their mission.
Lanez himself remains determined to fight for justice, vowing to continue his battle until he achieves victory.
