Actress Sophie Turner reportedly discovered that her husband, Joe Jonas, filed for divorce through media reports, according to a new petition filed by her attorneys in Manhattan District Court.
The news of Jonas’ divorce filing came after four years of marriage and was made public on September 5.
Turner’s lawyers allege that their marriage broke down suddenly, following an argument that took place on August 15, 2023.
It is stated in the petition that Jonas filed for divorce against Turner in Florida on September 1, and she found out about it through the media on September 5.
However, a representative for Joe Jonas has refuted Turner’s claim, stating that she was aware of his intention to file for divorce.
The representative mentioned that after multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated the divorce proceedings in Florida, which they consider to be the appropriate jurisdiction for the case.
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas began dating in 2016, when she was 20 and he was 27.
They tied the knot in 2019 and welcomed their first child, Willa, the following year.
In 2022, they had their second daughter.
According to the petition filed by Turner’s lawyers, in April 2023, the couple agreed to permanently settle in England.
They were even house hunting in England as recently as July, with the shared plan of raising their children in the country’s beautiful surroundings.
Turner’s attorneys argue that England is the children’s habitual residence, as they have already become integrated into daily life there.
The filing highlights routine medical care, extracurricular activities, playdates, and nursery school as examples of their children’s involvement in English life.
The petition states that Turner and Jonas had planned for their children to join the Jonas Brothers on tour until August, while Turner finished filming a drama series in England.
She intended to collect the children in September.
Contrary to their shared plan, Jonas filed for divorce in Miami, Florida, where they previously owned a house.
The property was recently sold for $15 million, a move described by Turner’s petition as part of their plan to settle in England.
A representative for Jonas states that there is a Florida court order prohibiting both parties from relocating the children.
The representative further reveals that Turner and Jonas had a cordial meeting in New York on Sunday, giving Jonas the impression that they would work together towards a cooperative co-parenting arrangement.
They emphasize that any disparaging statements made on Jonas’ behalf were unauthorized and do not reflect his views.
Joe’s main concern is the well-being of his children, and he hopes that Sophie will reconsider her legal position and move forward in a more constructive and private manner.
At the time of writing, no response has been received from Sophie Turner’s attorney regarding these developments.
