In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Seth Rogen revealed that he will no longer be working with his longtime friend and frequent collaborator, James Franco, following a series of allegations regarding inappropriate behavior.
Rogen addressed the allegations and also expressed remorse for his 2014 Saturday Night Live opening monologue, where he made jokes about a 17-year-old girl's claims that Franco had propositioned her through Instagram messages when he was 35.
During the monologue, Rogen admitted to pranking Franco by posing as a young girl on Instagram and arranging a meeting at the Ace Hotel.
Reflecting on this incident, Rogen stated, “I decided to prank James Franco.
I posed as a girl on Instagram, told him I was way young.
He seemed unfazed.
I have a date to meet him at the Ace Hotel.”
However, Rogen now regrets making the joke, acknowledging it as a terrible mistake.
Franco faced further accusations of s**ual misconduct in 2018 from five additional women who had attended his former acting school.
These women filed a class-action lawsuit against Franco in 2019, ultimately reaching a settlement with him earlier this year.
Initially, Rogen had affirmed his intention to continue working with Franco when the allegations first emerged.
However, in his recent interview, he clarified that he no longer holds those views: “And I also look back to that interview in 2018 where I comment that I would keep working with James, and the truth is that I have not and I do not plan to right now.”
When asked about the timing of his decision to end their professional relationship, Rogen responded that it was “not a coincidence.”
Notably, he emphasized that their friendship has undergone significant changes as a result of the allegations, stating, “I don't know if I can define that right now during this interview.
I can say it, um, you know, it has changed many things in our relationship and our dynamic.”
Rogen acknowledged that while the situation has been challenging for him, he recognizes that it has been even more painful for others involved.
He expressed empathy for those affected by the misconduct, stating, “Yeah.
But not as painful and difficult as it is for a lot of other people involved.
I have no pity for myself in this situation.”
It is evident that Seth Rogen's decision to sever ties with James Franco reflects his strong stance against abuse and harassment.
By distancing himself from Franco, Rogen sends a clear message that he will not support or enable such
