In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Sandra Bullock opens up about her shock and disappointment upon seeing the infamous photo of her estranged husband, Jesse James, dressed in Nazi attire.
The Oscar-winning actress states that this is not the man she once knew.
The photograph, taken in 2004, captures James wearing a German soldier's hat, mimicking Adolf Hitler's mustache with one hand, and giving a “Heil, Hitler” salute with the other.
While the image was widely criticized, attorney Joe Yanny explains that the hat was actually given to James as a joke by his Jewish godfather.
Bullock expresses her dismay, saying, “The photo shocked me and made me sad.
This was stupid, this was ignorant.
Racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia, anything Nazi-related, and various other forms of discrimination have no place in my life.”
She further emphasizes that the man she married shared the same beliefs.
Now focused on moving forward from her failed marriage, Bullock eagerly embraces her new role as a single parent to her 3 1/2-month-old adopted son, Louis Bardo Bullock, from New Orleans.
Although she and James initiated the adoption process four years ago and brought Louis home in January, Bullock plans to raise him independently.
“He's simply perfect; I can't find any other words to describe him,” Bullock exclaims.
“It's as if he has always been a part of our lives.”
In terms of James' future involvement with Louis, Bullock admits uncertainty, stating, “I really don't know how our paths will intersect in the future.”
She hopes that Louis will experience the fatherly love she has known James to possess, regardless of their own relationship.
Following reports of James' alleged 11-month affair with a tattoo model, Bullock moved out of their shared Los Angeles home.
Four additional women have come forward, claiming to have had s**ual relationships with James.
On March 26, James voluntarily checked himself into a treatment facility to address personal issues in an attempt to salvage his five-year marriage to Bullock.
His representative stated that James has completed treatment and was seen taking his children to school on Monday.
James has three children from his previous marriages.
With determination, James asserts, “I believe that I can be the best father to my four children and the partner Sandy deserves.
I understand that this is an immense challenge, but I believe the steps I have taken in the last 30 days lay the foundation for making it happen.”
