Tom Brady Believes Janet Jackson’s ‘Nipplegate’ Incident Was Beneficial for the NFL, Generating More Publicity

The Infamous Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show, held on February 1, 2004 in Houston, is widely known not for its entertainment value, but rather for a scandalous ‘wardrobe malfunction' that had immediate consequences for live broadcasts.

During the show, which featured performances by , P. Diddy, Nelly, Kid Rock, , and , Timberlake infamously exposed Jackson's right bre-st adorned with a sun-shaped piercing when he ‘ripped off' her wardrobe.

Although the controversial image lasted less than five seconds, it ignited an international scandal due to the supposed family-friendly nature of the event.

Thousands protested against the fact that minors were exposed to such content.

As a result of this incident, all live broadcasts implemented a delay of a few seconds to prevent similar mishaps and allow for editing during the live transmission.

Interestingly, Tom Brady, the retired football star, sees the incident as a positive occurrence for the NFL.

During an episode of the ‘Let's Go!'

podcast hosted by Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray, Brady expressed his opinion on the matter.

Brady, who led the New England Patriots to victory over the Carolina Panthers that year, admitted that he was unaware of the incident when asked about it after the game.

He preferred to focus on the game rather than watching the halftime show.

When questioned by the media, Brady recalled, “I didn't see much.

I'd rather not watch it (the halftime show) when I'm playing.

I remember we came off the field and that's when we had the wardrobe malfunction with and .

The media was asking me about it.

I didn't even understand what they were saying.

They'd say, ‘Did you see the halftime show,' and I'd say, ‘I didn't see anything.'

I was thinking about the game.”

However, upon reflection, Brady believes that the incident ultimately benefited the NFL.

He stated, “It took a while to find out exactly what had happened, but I think, in the end, it was probably a good thing for the NFL because everybody got to talk about it, and it was just more publicity and more publicity for the halftime shows.

Is bad publicity still publicity?

So they say, so who knows?”

Years later, Janet Jackson opened up about the incident, revealing her conversation with Justin Timberlake.

“We talked one time and Justin said, ‘I don't know if I should speak up and make a statement.'

And then I said, ‘Look, I don't want any drama for you.

If I were you, I wouldn't say anything,'” Jackson shared.

Despite the controversy, Jackson emphasized that she and Timberlake remain close friends and have moved on from the incident.

She expressed, “Justin and I are very good friends and always will be.
