Back in the late 1970s, during the filming of ‘Star Wars,' Carrie Fisher engaged in a romantic relationship with her co-star Harrison Ford.
Initially, Fisher felt that Ford was significantly older than her and thought he was out of her league.
Their affair took place while they were shooting the first Star Wars movie, and it remained a secret until decades later when Fisher published her memoir, The Princess Diarist, shedding light on their hidden romance.
Despite growing up in Hollywood as the daughter of famous personalities Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Fisher was relatively inexperienced in relationships compared to Ford.
She landed the role of Princess Leia in Star Wars, which marked her big break in the industry.
During her time in London for the filming, Fisher crossed paths with Ford, who was already an established actor with a family.
At 34 years old, Ford had already appeared in various films and TV shows, while Fisher, at 19, had only been in one romantic relationship prior to meeting him.
In her memoir, Fisher delved into the details of her relationship with Ford.
She expressed her surprise at Ford initiating the affair, mentioning in her journal entries from that time how she never expected anything romantic to happen between them due to their age gap and his marital status.
The affair reportedly began at a party hosted by George Lucas in London, where Ford made a move on Fisher after she had a few drinks at a pub.
This led to a three-month-long casual romance characterized by physical intimacy.
As their relationship progressed, Fisher noted that Ford appeared distant and critical of her kissing abilities.
She mentioned in her book how Ford bluntly informed her of being a “bad kisser,” a comment that stayed with her long after their liaison ended.
Despite their affair coming to an end before the premiere of the first Star Wars film, Fisher admitted to harboring hopes of a future with Ford, affectionately referring to them as “Carrison.”
She envisioned a scenario where they could potentially reunite even 40 years after their initial romance.
Tragically, just a month following the release of The Princess Diarist, Fisher passed away in December 2016, leaving behind a legacy of openness and honesty about her life experiences.
