Lana Wood, the sister of Hollywood actress Natalie Wood, has recently disclosed that a homosexual relationship was the catalyst for her sister's split from husband Robert Wagner, decades before her tragic death.
Initially married in 1957 until 1962, and then reuniting in 1972 until Natalie's passing in 1981, the couple's marriage faced turmoil due to an alleged incident involving Wagner and another man in June 1961, leading to their divorce the following year.
In an exclusive revelation shared on the podcast Fatal Voyage: The Mysterious Death of Natalie Wood, Natalie herself described the downfall of her marriage in a never-before-seen memoir provided to the podcast creators.
Reflecting on the events that transpired, Natalie wrote, “My marriage crumbled that weekend.
The memories of what led to our final separation are too painful for me to articulate in writing.
It marked more than the breaking point; it was a harsh reality shattering the delicate fabric of romantic ideals with brutal force.”
Lana Wood vividly recalled the distressing moment when her teenage self witnessed Natalie's emotional turmoil firsthand, as she tearfully confided in her about the heartbreaking discovery that prompted her decision to leave Wagner.
Recalling the fateful night in 1981, Natalie and Wagner were aboard his yacht with actor Christopher Walken and Captain Dennis Davern when Natalie tragically lost her life.
Davern, in various interviews, admitted to withholding information and making regrettable choices surrounding the circumstances of Natalie's death, eventually expressing his belief that Wagner bore responsibility for the tragedy.
While Walken has remained largely reticent regarding that ill-fated evening, he vaguely referenced the incident in a past interview, suggesting that Natalie may have accidentally fallen into the water during the night.
Contrasting these accounts, Lana Wood shared her conviction on the Fatal Voyage podcast that Natalie's demise resulted from a violent altercation that culminated in her being either struck or pushed overboard during the intense confrontation.
Despite cooperating with authorities throughout the investigation, Wagner chose not to provide further details when the case was reopened on the 30th anniversary of Natalie Wood's passing, refraining from addressing Lana Wood's claims regarding the alleged gay affair.
Marking what would have been Natalie Wood's 80th birthday, the series debuted on July 20, commemorating the enduring legacy of the enigmatic Hollywood star.
