Just a day after the world mourned the loss of Carrie Fisher, her mother, the Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds, also bid farewell.
In a poignant moment revealed by her son, Reynolds' final words were a heartfelt longing: “I miss her so much, I want to be with Carrie.”
Renowned for her role in the classic Singin' in the Rain, Reynolds was rushed to the hospital from Fisher's home in Beverly Hills after reportedly suffering a stroke.
At the age of 84, she passed away.
Expressing the family's profound grief, Todd Fisher, her son and Carrie's brother, shared with the Associated Press from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center that Reynolds is now reunited with her beloved daughter Carrie, leaving them all shattered by the loss.
The emotional toll of losing her daughter proved too heavy for Reynolds, leading to her passing shortly after Fisher's death.
As reported by TMZ, Todd and Reynolds were in the midst of planning Fisher's funeral arrangements when Reynolds was suddenly taken to the hospital nearby.
Debbie Reynolds, a screen icon, graced fans with her talent for over six decades, with a career that spanned more than 60 films.
Notably remembered for her Oscar-nominated performance in The Unsinkable Molly Brown in 1964, she shone as a leading lady in Hollywood musicals and comedies during the golden era of cinema.
Apart from her on-screen achievements, Reynolds was embroiled in a well-known Hollywood scandal when her husband, Eddie Fisher, left her for the iconic Elizabeth Taylor following the death of Taylor's husband.
Acknowledging the outpouring of support from Fisher's admirers, Reynolds expressed her gratitude for the love and remembrance shown towards her daughter in her Facebook post, guiding Carrie on her journey ahead.
“Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter,” she wrote.
“Love Carries Mother”.
In a tribute to Fisher, her brother reflected on her legacy, emphasizing how she left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
“My sister has graduated to heaven,” he shared on Twitter.
“But she has left us all with so much of her, It is a very sad time for my family and all her friends.”
Scheduled for release in 2017, Reynolds was set to appear in the HBO documentary Bright Lights alongside her daughter, marking their bond both on and off the screen.
Leaving behind her son Todd and granddaughter Billie Lourd, Reynolds' legacy as a Hollywood luminary and a devoted mother will forever be cherished by fans and loved ones alike.
