In a stunning revelation from a new biography, it has been disclosed that the late R&B singer and actress Aaliyah was reluctant to board the flight that tragically claimed her life.
The eyewitness, Kingsley Russell, disclosed that Aaliyah was administered a sleeping pill and transported unconscious onto the ill-fated aircraft before the fatal crash in 2001.
Kingsley Russell, who was only 13 years old at the time and part of a family-operated taxi business in the Abaco Islands, recounted the distressing events leading up to Aaliyah’s final flight.
Aaliyah, known in full as Aaliyah Dana Haughton, had just finished filming her music video “Rock the Boat” and was heading back to Miami with her team when the unsettling incident took place.
Despite being an anxious flyer, Aaliyah expressed concerns about the plane being overweight due to eight passengers, including her hefty bodyguard, along with their luggage and equipment.
These apprehensions grew when they arrived at the airport and were faced with a small plane, prompting Aaliyah to retreat to a slumber inside the cab while her team dealt with the situation.
Subsequently, one of Aaliyah’s crew members reportedly gave her a sleeping pill to ease her anxiety, causing her to drift into a deep sleep.
In this state, Aaliyah was then carried onto the plane, unknowingly setting the stage for the catastrophic turn of events that followed shortly after takeoff.
Tragically, the twin-engine Cessna failed to ascend properly and crashed not long after departing, resulting in the untimely demise of Aaliyah and the entire entourage on board.
The aftermath of the crash revealed the severity of Aaliyah’s injuries, leaving little hope of survival given the extensive burns and head trauma she had sustained.
Investigations later exposed critical factors contributing to the crash, including the aircraft surpassing its weight limit by a significant margin and an improper distribution of weight that impeded control during flight.
Moreover, the pilot’s actions, such as possessing a fraudulent license and being under the influence of substances, further compounded the tragic circumstances surrounding the accident.
Contrary to previous reports suggesting Aaliyah’s insistence on boarding the flight, the eyewitness account offers a different perspective on her state of mind prior to the tragedy.
