Reflecting on the passing of her late husband, John Ritter, two decades after his death, Amy Yasbeck is breaking her silence.
The renowned Emmy winner, celebrated for his roles in “Three’s Company” and “8 Simple Rules,” tragically passed away at the age of 54 in 2003 due to complications from aortic dissection, a condition that was initially misdiagnosed.
Recalling the harrowing ordeal, Yasbeck revealed that Ritter was rushed to the emergency room where his symptoms were erroneously identified as a heart attack.
However, the reality was far more dire as he was battling thoracic aortic dissection, a severe condition characterized by a tear in the inner lining of the aorta, the body’s primary artery.
In the wake of Ritter’s untimely demise, Yasbeck established the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health with a mission to enhance awareness surrounding thoracic aortic disease through dedicated initiatives in research, education, and advocacy.
Yasbeck emphasized the foundation’s commitment to providing support and resources for individuals grappling with aortic health issues.
Through programs like the “Ritter Rules,” a comprehensive guide to understanding one’s risk factors, and the aorta advocates network, those affected can find solace and guidance in navigating their medical journey.
Looking ahead, Yasbeck disclosed that Kaley Cuoco and her partner, Tom Pelphrey, will serve as the chairs for the upcoming event hosted by the Ritter Foundation in May.
This collaboration underscores the shared dedication to advancing the foundation’s noble cause and honoring Ritter’s enduring legacy.
In a touching tribute to Ritter’s memory, Yasbeck highlighted the involvement of her children in preserving his spirit.
She expressed admiration for her four kids, Jason, Tyler, Carly, and Noah, each possessing a unique sense of humor and individuality, ensuring that Ritter’s essence lives on through their distinct personalities.
Of the four children, Jason and Tyler have ventured into the entertainment industry, following in their father’s illustrious footsteps.
Tyler, aged 38, notably starred in the CBS comedy series “The McCarthys” and made appearances in popular shows such as “Modern Family” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Meanwhile, Jason, aged 43, has made notable appearances in television series like “Parenthood” and “Joan of Arcadia,” and is married to actress Melanie Lynskey, with whom he shares a daughter.
Yasbeck fondly recounted how the collective presence of all four children evokes memories of Ritter, allowing them to cherish and perpetuate his legacy through shared moments and laughter.
This bond serves as a poignant reminder of Ritter’s enduring impact and the profound influence he continues to exert on those closest to him.
