Reimagining Elvis: Tracing His Final Hours at Graceland

It was a seemingly ordinary day when Ginger Alden, Elvis' girlfriend, woke up and noticed his absence from their bed.

Accustomed to his erratic sleep schedule, she carried on with her morning routine, chatting with her mother before stumbling upon a shocking sight in the bathroom just before 2pm on August 16, 1977.

There lay The King, sprawled on the floor, never having made it to bed.

Despite the common perception of him as a solitary and melancholic figure, Elvis had spent his final day engaging in activities like playing the piano, enjoying time with his daughter Lisa Marie, and even making a spontaneous visit to the dentist.

Amidst talk of marriage plans and impending tour commitments, he had also ingested multiple combinations of medications.

Elvis experienced a nocturnal lifestyle, awakening at 4pm on Monday, August 15, 1977, at his residence in Graceland.

Spending the day with Lisa Marie and Ginger, he engaged in games and conversations.

Despite his proposal for Ginger to move in with him being declined, she frequently stayed over.

Later in the evening, at 10.30pm, Elvis and Ginger visited his dentist regarding ongoing tooth discomfort.

Known for having a personal dental team available around the clock to administer various medications, including painkillers and sleeping aids, Elvis often sought relief through these means.

Returning to Graceland at 12.30am on Tuesday, August 16, 1977, Elvis waved at fans while driving in, captured in what would be his final photographed moment.

Clad in a black jacket over a light blue shirt, he sported oversized black sunglasses despite the late hour.

Subsequently, at 2.15am, Elvis contacted his personal physician for additional pain relief, leading to the procurement of more medication by his stepbrother.

In the early hours of Tuesday, Elvis summoned his cousin Billy and spouse Jo to partake in a game of racquetball on the estate's court, showcasing a familiar display of his ability to influence the weather.

Following a brief racquetball match, Elvis serenaded his guests with gospel tunes and the ballad “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” on a nearby piano.

Transitioning to 5:00 am, Elvis retired to his bedroom with Ginger, where he consumed a prescribed assortment of drugs assembled by his physician for nightly use.

Despite concerns raised posthumously regarding the excessive medication provided to Elvis, particularly for inducing sleep, he proceeded to ingest an additional package of pills at 7:00 am as part of his pre-flight routine for an upcoming concert tour.

Struggling to attain rest, Elvis urgently sought more medication at 8:00 am, only to encounter difficulties in procuring them.

Expressing frustration at the unavailability of additional doses, Elvis engaged his aunt's assistance in acquiring a smaller bundle of pills designed to alleviate insomnia.

By 9.30am, having already ingested a range of substances, Elvis informed Ginger of his intent to visit the bathroom, carrying with him a book on Jesus' visage.

Known for his battles with severe constipation, Elvis embarked on what would become his final moments, cautioning against dozing off in the lavatory.

Ginger's concern escalated upon noticing Elvis's absence by 1.30pm, eventually finding him unresponsive on the bathroom floor.

Alarmed by his condition, she sought aid from the on-duty staff member as Elvis's daughter Lisa Marie observed the unfolding events.

As Vernon Presley rushed to the scene upon notification, an ambulance was summoned to address the critical situation.

Ultimately, the world bid farewell to the legendary under tragic and mysterious circumstances at Graceland that fateful day.
