Three decades have passed since the fatal shooting of Tejano icon Selena Quintanilla-Pérez by her fan club manager, Yolanda Saldívar.
The perpetrator is now breaking her silence in the exclusive Oxygen series titled Selena and Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them.
On a fateful day in 1995, just before noon, Yolanda Saldívar took the life of the 23-year-old singer at a Days Inn hotel in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Eyewitnesses were horrified as Selena staggered to the hotel lobby, leaving behind a haunting trail of blood.
In her final moments, Selena managed to utter the name of her assailant – “Yolanda Saldívar, room 158” – before losing consciousness and passing away shortly after reaching the hospital.
The devastating murder plunged the Latin music world into mourning.
Following a nine-hour standoff with law enforcement, Saldívar was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Presently serving a life sentence in Gatesville, Texas, Saldívar maintains that the fatal shot was accidental, a claim disputed by prosecutors and others featured in the documentary.

Yolanda Saldivar Asserts Shooting Was Unintentional
As per prosecutors, the shooting stemmed from accusations by Selena and her family that Saldívar was misappropriating funds from the singer’s enterprises – an assertion Saldívar refutes.
District Attorney Carlos Valdez clarified during the docuseries Selena & Yolanda that proving embezzlement was not crucial for convicting Saldívar of murder.
Valdez explained, “In the trial, we don’t need to establish embezzlement.
What’s crucial is Mr. Quintanilla’s belief that something illicit was happening; that there was financial misconduct.”
This belief led to the confrontation between Quintanilla and Saldívar, sparking a chain of events culminating in Selena’s tragic demise.
Following the altercation, Abraham reportedly terminated Saldívar’s employment and banned her from the family’s business operations.
However, Saldívar contests this narrative, claiming that she had already decided to resign from Selena’s service.
She asserts that during their encounter at the Days Inn lodging, Selena attempted to guilt-trip her into staying, painting a bleak picture of the future without her.
